Listen Up - Professional Development

Listen Up! offers educators administrators and specialized staff the knowledge and ability to improve their students’ listening skills in the classroom, Pre-K-12. Students come to school with varied abilities in focus and active listening which impacts their academic and social abilities in the classroom. This program offers the teacher ways to develop and build listening strategies into the existing curriculum in fun and interesting ways.

Learning Outcomes

Listen Up! is a 3-hour course offered in person or virtually. This course is available to teachers, administrators, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, play therapists, tutors, and support personnel. This course is geared toward working with children ages Pre-K through High School.

These skills were always essential for our students, but even more important to focus on now after Covid.

Listening Challenges in Children

Lois Kam Heymann, M.A. CCC-SLP, is a Speech and Language Pathologist with over 30 years experience working with children with listening, language and learning challenges and their parents.

 

Lois has presented hundreds of in-service workshops, seminars and conferences, nationally and internationally, sharing her knowledge and techniques with parent groups, school systems and speech-language pathologists. Lois also works training therapists and teachers nationally as well as internationally in India, Dubai, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Ethiopia and Bulgaria.

 

Lois’ book: The Sound of Hope: Recognizing, Coping with and Treating Your Child’s Auditory Processing Disorder (Random House Publishing) is a parent guide to the importance of listening skills development in children birth to 8 years old. The book has a forward by Rosie O’Donnell.

 

Lois creates listening-Language Programs for students of all ages.

 

Lois’ mission is to share her philosophy, techniques and methods with parents, therapists and teachers around the world.
